Night at the Museums with
Purnell Steen & Charlie Burrell from 7:00pm to 9:00pm

Denver Arts Week kicks off in high style with a spectacular night of free entertainment on Friday, November 14 when Denver’s first Night At The Museums features more than a dozen museums opening their doors for extended evening hours from 5 to 10 p.m. – all for free!   In addition to offering an opportunity to view regular collections, all of the museums will also have special programming and unique entertainment.

To make it convenient to hop from museum to museum, free parking is offered at Cherry Creek Shopping Center, where guests can board free shuttles starting at 4:30 p.m.  The shuttles will visit all museums.  Free shuttles are also available at the Denver Art Museum.

Night at the Museums is based on the popular Nuit De La Musee, an event that started in Paris and is now celebrated at more than 1,800 museums across France each year.  It kicks off Denver Arts Week, November 14-22, a week long celebration of the Mile High City’s arts and culture.

The Kirkland Museum of Decorative & Fine Art is partnering with Dazzle Restaurant & Lounge (www.dazzlejazz.com) to offer an evening of cool jazz and modern art. From 5 to 10 p.m. guests can explore the museum’s renowned collection of decorative art—with over 3,300 pieces from Arts and Crafts through Modern and to Pop Art—and its Colorado Modernist collection, while enjoying wonderful hors d’oeuvres from Dazzle. From 7 to 9 p.m. Purnell Steen and Le Jazz Machine will give a live performance at the museum, and will be joined by a bona fide Denver jazz legend, bassist Charlie Burrell.

Historic Denver Officially Launches Denver Story Trek

Trek Takes Visitors on a Journey through Time as it Leads them to
Historical Landmarks across Denver

DENVER (July 21, 2008) – Historic Denver has officially launched its new Denver Story Trek. Borne out of a collaboration between Historic Denver and five of Denver’s leading heritage sites, the Denver Story Trek is a customizable experience that takes visitors through a variety of Denver neighborhoods, capturing the essence of Denver’s heritage and showcasing the vibrant city that it is today.

The Trek encompasses the Cherry Creek Bike Path and Civic Center Park as it leads visitors to the five partner organizations in the collaboration—Black American West Museum, Byers-Evans House Museum, Four Mile Historic Park, Kirkland Museum of Fine & Decorative Art and the Molly Brown House Museum. It tells the history of Denver—from the settling of the frontier and the quest for gold to the arrival of the railroad and the refinement of a frontier outpost into a sophisticated city.

Enjoyable for visitors of all ages, the Denver Story Trek can be navigated by car, bus or bicycle. Visitors can choose to trek chronologically or across themes such as “Settling the Frontier,” “Shedding the Frontier Rawness,” “Convergence of Cultures,” “Women of the West” and “Stage Stops, Railroads and Streetcars,” among others. They can also choose to pioneer their own route.

The Denver Story Trek will include special Trek Connect signs at various points throughout the city. Serving much like an audio tour in a museum, these signs will give visitors a number to call using their cell phones to hear stories of the people behind the places on the Trek. In addition, visitors will be invited to record their own memories and experiences for others to hear.

Information regarding the Denver Story Trek—including historical background, maps, suggested routes and details regarding calling in to Trek Connect to share stories—can be found on the Trek’s Web site, www.denverstorytrek.com.
